Google Play Store: a dozen applications steal your personal data

Once again Google warns against rogue applications present on its application store.

Dishonest application developers manage to circumvent the Google Play Protect protection system. Indeed, the Mountain View company has announced that a dozen applications all published by a single company engage in the theft of personal data for several months.

An investigation was conducted by AppCensus in late 2021. It found that the malicious code used in these apps is linked to a US Department of Defense contractor “specializes in cyberintelligence, network defense and intelligence interception on behalf of US security agencies”. The AppCensus firm informed Google on October 20, 2021 of the presence of these malicious applications downloaded several million times. However, the latter were removed from the Play Store only on March 25, 2022. In the list we find applications of all kinds such as a QR code scanner, applications on the Quran and call to prayer or even an application offering a Dedicated time and weather widget.

Here is the list of applications concerned, if one or more of them are present on your smartphone, it is strongly recommended to uninstall them as soon as possible.
