After the Model 3, Tesla raises the price of its Model Y SUV

Tesla enthusiasts will be disillusioned, at least those who had planned to buy a vehicle in the days to come. Because the American manufacturer continues its sudden increases, as spotted clean automobile. On the night of March 15 to 16, it was his SUV, the Model Y, which paid the price first with an inflation of 3,000 euros. Displayed the day before at 59,990 euros, it is now necessary to pay no less than 62,990 euros to afford it. In reality, this increase is equivalent to 4,000 euros since the buyer no longer benefits from the ecological bonus associated with it.

But that’s not all. Because at the same time, the price of one of its flagship models, the Tesla Model 3, jumped again. And not just a little! The basic model is displayed at 49,990 euros now. Pretty crazy when you know that at the beginning of the month, its price was 43,800 euros. As a reminder, and as Capital detailed, on March 2, Elon Musk’s company had decided to increase it by 1,190 euros. By being under 45,000 euros, this allowed French buyers to benefit from the ecological bonus of 6,000 euros, without being able to take other options however.

An overpriced vehicle

But on March 11, Tesla decided to raise its price to 46,990 euros, ruining all these hopes of a bonus. Now with a price approaching 50,000 euros, the vehicle is not only becoming overpriced, but has jumped by 12,000 euros in just two weeks. As a reminder, you could buy a Model 3 at 36,800 euros in January 2021 (-13,190 euros). So how can this outbreak be explained? Shortages and the war in Ukraine have a lot to do with it, tries to explain clean automobilewith, in particular, an explosion in the price of nickel. Supply difficulties are not unrelated either.

From now on, the manufacturer could concentrate on its current orders and abandon new sales for the moment, even if it means losing ground on the market, when the other manufacturers are posting much lower prices. By way of comparison, the Renault Zoe sells for entry-level at 32,000 euros, the Peugeot e-208 from 32,700 euros, the Dacia Spring at 16,800 euros and the Fiat 500, 16,190 euros. All this excluding bonuses. Bad news therefore for Tesla, while the Model 3 is the best-selling in Europe. Out of stock in France, it could only be delivered at the beginning of 2023.
