Google’s next flagship could shoot selfie videos up to 4K, which the Pixel 6 couldn’t offer. By the way, the Pixel tablet would only integrate a single rear camera.
Once is not custom, 9to5Google dug into the APK of a Google app. This time, it was Google Camera in version 8.5. The investigation made it possible to learn a little more about the photo and video capabilities of the Pixel 7 and the Pixel tablet.
Regarding the new duo of flagships from Google, the two phones would be able to shoot videos in 4K with their front sensor. In the Pixel 6 series, only the Pro model was capable of this.
A change of habit
Google could therefore have improved the sensor of the Pixel 6, which had an 8 megapixel selfie sensor, compared to 11.1 for the Pixel 6 Pro. However, it is generally accepted that a camera must have a slightly higher definition (around 10 megapixels) to offer 4K video. So we would expect both phones to share the same selfie camera.
It would be a small revolution in the habits of the Mountain View firm, which until now had the habit of not changing sensors from one generation to another, the Pixel 6 representing the first real improvement since the Pixel 3 .
Minimum service for the tablet
The future Pixel tablet meanwhile, scheduled for 2023, will integrate, as we saw during its presentation, a single photo module. But that’s about all we know so far. The search carried out on the Google Camera application seems to indicate that the tablet would ignore a good number of features.
We can cite for example the absence of video in 4K at 60 FPS, or even the very simple absence of video in 4K. It could also ignore the audio zoom, slow motion videos or the functionality that allows you to take pictures in motion. Let’s be honest, it’s a tablet, a device with which you don’t necessarily seek to reach a high level in photography or video. The absence of all these features would therefore not condemn it.
Let us add that the device is still far from its marketing date. These hypothetical absences are therefore to be taken with a lot of tweezers.
As a reminder, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are expected for the month of October 2022 while the tablet should not be released before 2023.
