Google’s Pixel 7 wouldn’t be much more powerful than the previous one

A group of people managed to get their hands on a Pixel 7 Pro and used it to extract new information about the device’s performance.

The information continues to surge on the side of Google. After various prototypes, including that of the Pixel 7 Pro, ended their run on marketplacestoday we learn new information about its Tensor 2 chip.

Almost unchanged performance

The leak comes from a Telegram group called Google News that was able to get its hands on the Pixel 7 Pro prototype rendered inoperable by Google. The members of this group therefore hastened to study the boot logs of the device and were able to make some interesting new discoveries.

According to them, the 4 + 2 + 2 configuration would be back at its processor level, the same as on the Pixel 6. The first Tensor chip used 2 Cortex-X1 cores, 2 Cortex-A76 cores as well as 4 Cortex-A55 cores and the boot logs of the device mention the presence of low-performance A55 cores based on the ARMv8 architecture.

The new high-performance X2 cores that we could hope to see arrive in the Pixel 7 are based on the ARMv9 architecture. But since it is impossible to make the two architectures coexist on the same SoC, this would also mean a return of the X1 cores on the Pixel 7. The next flagship of Google could however still use middle cores different and give preference to the new A78s instead of the A76s.

Towards a Pixel 6-bis?

We could not therefore decently expect with this configuration major improvements in the performance of the device. On the other hand, we could always have something new on the side of the GPU and other components of the SoC, for example on the software processing of images which is one of Google’s strengths.

The prototype studied also contained a new screen from Samsung, the S6E3HC4 which could therefore replace the S6E3HC3 of the Pixel 6 Pro. But there is nothing to hope for major improvements in the panel either. The definition of 1440 x 3120 pixels as well as the refresh rate of 120 Hz should remain unchanged.

The information contained in this smartphone also confirms the code names of Google’s upcoming devices: “Panther” for the Pixel 7, “Cheetah” for the Pixel 7 Pro and “Felix” which could be the brand’s next Pixel 7a. . Another code name “Lynx” is mentioned there without it being known for which device it may be intended.
