HTC launches the Desire 22 Pro, a smartphone optimized for the metaverse, cryptocurrencies and NFTs

The manufacturer HTC has just announced the Desire 22 Pro, the first smartphone designed for the metaverse. Developed as the perfect companion to the VIVE FLOW headset, the phone provides easy access to the digital world developed by HTC, the Viverse. This virtual universe offers to create personalized NFTs and avatars.

HTC unveils its metaverse-oriented smartphone

As expected, HTC unveiled the first smartphone made for the metaverse at a conference on June 27, 2022. Called Desire 22 Pro, the phone was designed to work in synergy with the new VIVE Flow headphones of the brand. According to the Taiwanese manufacturer, this is the “perfect companion” of the helmet.

In concrete terms, the smartphone can distribute content platforms such as Twitch, Disney+ and Netflix directly on the virtual reality glasses. The two devices communicate through the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) 2.24 wireless standard. This protocol is intended to prevent illegal copying of high definition digital content.

Thanks to this combo, the wearer of the glasses can watch content on their β€œown private cinema” wherever it is,” says Shen Ye, global product manager at HTC, in a press release. Note that VIVE Flow is however compatible with all Android devices.

Thanks to the reverse charging of the smartphone, it is possible to recharge the battery of the connected glasses. Within the Android interface of the Desire 22 Pro, there is an application called Live Manager. It allows you to configure all your hardware dedicated to virtual reality.

The Viverse, the metaverse created by HTC

The Desire 22 Pro also includes several default applications intended to facilitate access to the Viverse, the metaverse developed by HTC. Within this digital universe, it is possible to design your own avatar, access meeting rooms in virtual reality and create non-fungible tokens (NFT). An NFT is also offered with the purchase of the terminal. Finally, the Viverse allows Internet users to “create their own virtual space” according to their tastes.

HTC’s new production also benefits from the features inaugurated on the Exodus range, the brand’s blockchain phones. There is thus a digital wallet allowing you to store cryptocurrencies on the blockchain. Ethereum (ETH) and Polygon (MATIC).

Besides, the Desire 22 Pro has a very classic technical sheet. Oriented mid-range, the smartphone is covered with a 6.6-inch LCD screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chip supported by 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage . On the back side, there is a triple photo sensor.

The smartphone will be available in France at the price of 449 euros. For the moment, HTC has not communicated a release date. The Desire 22 Pro shares some commonalities with the Saga, Solana’s (SOL) Web 3.0 smartphone. Nevertheless, the HTC smartphone seems more focused on virtual reality, spearhead of the manufacturer, than on the metaverse or Web 3.0.
