Telsa has reason to rub its hands: after seeing its sales explode in the United States or China, it is now in Europe that the manufacturer is breaking all sales records. In September 2021, the Tesla Model 3 became the best-selling vehicle, surpassing sure values like the Clio and the Sandero.
The Tesla Model 3 is definitely on the rise. If 24 copies are sold every hour around the world, the electric car is now ahead of thermals in Europe. According to Jato Dynamics, which counted vehicle sales in September 2021 in Europe, Tesla’s electric car has surpassed sales of the Renault Clio and Dacia Sandero.
Thus, of the 964,800 new vehicles sold in September 2021, these are more than 24,600 Tesla Model 3s that have been marketed. A 58% rise in sales compared to the same period in 2020. For comparison, the Clio only sold just over 18,200 copies in September 2021 and saw a 23% drop from compared to the same period in 2020.
The Tesla Model 3 sells better in Europe than thermal cars
According to research firm Jato, the reasons for this success are as follows: “The strong performance of the Model 3 is partly explained by the intensive increase in sales of Tesla at the end of the quarter. September has always been a strong month for the American manufacturer’s registrations results in Europe, accounting for an average of 68% of its third-quarter deliveries since 2018. Last month, registrations accounted for 74% of third-quarter volume.
Thus, the market share over this period represents 2.6% of car sales for the Model 3. And that is a double victory for Tesla’s electric car : not only is this the first time that an electric vehicle has climbed to the top position, but it is also the first vehicle manufactured outside Europe to dominate the European market.

Tesla does not stop there, since still according to Jato, “since its entry into the European market, the Model Y has also performed well, securing the second position in the ranking of 100% electric vehicles. All in all, Tesla currently leads in electric vehicle sales, with a 24% market share, ahead of brands like Volkswagen (22% of electric car sales), Stellantis (13%) and Hyundai-Kia (11%). . Today, more new Tesla cars are sold than vehicles from historic brands such as Fiat, Seat or Nissan.
